Ugh! How much do you love this Vera Wang!

Are you ready??? Seriously, between Cailen looking like a hot version of a disney princess, and Sean, with his crooked Irish grin looking like Prince Charming, here in a fairy tale castle, you can bet that I didn’t let them get away with out a serious day after session. Huz and I thought for some time where we should do it. Perhaps we should find some village in mountains from middle ages, but once we arrived at this spectacular house, all the ideas I had seemed to settle on the antique furniture, paintings, and 70 acre property (manicured, and un-manicured!). I was without my camera at the very moment, but suffice it to say that the first moment I reached the gardens behind the chateau I saw a deer approaching fruit trees, and the land was so clear and wide, that it ran for a time before it found cover in the woods. It was magical. Magical in a way this place is magical. And every one knew it. Everyone was talking about it. It was a magical wedding, in a magical place.
Both shots from this post was taken by Cailen, the first was for this shot.
Cailen was so awesome to let me style her for this portion of the shoot! The dress she’s wearing is mine, I got it in Portland last summer. It’s a vintage Hawaiian dress from the 50’s, and never been worn (except by me, and now Cailen!). Oh, those are my shoes to. I lament sometimes about my big feet, but it was so awesome that Cailen and I are the same size so I could dress her up! And the black veil is one of Dorene’s, from Ashley and Andy’s shoot. I SO LOVE it when brides let me dress them up with all my pretty things I have infrequent opportunities to wear!!
It’s like Pride and Prejudice!
This was like the wedding I imagined for myself after watching Disney movies as a child. It was one for the storybooks, set in a private chateau in Le Grand Lucé, in the Loire Valley of France.
I feel so lucky that Cailen and Sean found me floating around the internets. It’s such a true blessing when I get to work with a couple so kind and loving. The relationship Cailen has with her siblings is enviable. Her brother had so much to say in his toast that he wrote her a book. Her little sister clung to her side as Cailen prepared for her right of passage. At one point, they lay on the bed, gazing at each other with marvel, saying I love you. I mean, wow. Just being around that kind of love is eye opening. And that’s to say nothing yet of Cailen and Sean.
I love my job because it is pure joy. I get to be around all these amazing people with amazing relationships, and I get to tell their amazing stories. Sean came to America from Ireland on a track scholarship. It was on college track that he met Cailen, and these years later they look at each other like they each are the luckiest people around.
Betty and Kent became some of my favorite people after just a couple of minutes. Since they live in the far off land of Honolulu, we had no choice but to do the engagement session the day before the wedding. I love the Big Island, and with the jetlag I couldn’t sleep after 5am and drove around the whole island scouting for 6 hours before we finally met up! After finding so many great locations, it turns out that the best part of shooting the day after session was at Puakea Ranch.
This was the day before.
This was the day after. HOW COOL IS THIS BATHROOM!!!
