This session was the most freezing I think I have ever been. But every moment I felt the spread of ice becoming my fingers was totally worth it. Michelle and Mike are so much fun. And through all the protective layers of down fill, our session was cuddly as toast. Michelle had the awesome idea of heading to the beach over at Horton Point Lighthouse, and little did I know that the landscape of the North Fork of Long Island could be so epically awesome. We perched over a raging ocean along 5 flights of rickety wooden stairs with below freezing gale force wind ringing in our ears. It was a thrill.
When Jessica emailed me for the first time and asked me to shoot her wedding, I was instantly enamored. It’s hard not to be. And though it wasn’t until we arrived in Marfa, Texas, that I first interacted with Gray, Huz and I felt right at home. Especially since right as Gray was walking up and we all introduced our selves, Huz was clamboring out of the trunk of our rental car after a brief and successful experiment to see if he could escape if I locked him in there. Oh, Huz, you warm my heart.
I couldn’t believe that the day of our engagement session, we had just met. We connected like old friends, regaling each other with stories of our adventures, traveling the world and shooting weddings, as Jessica has shot a few herself. We let our conversations carry us away, and in the cozy warmth of their 1950’s trailer, our friendship was already blooming. We are kindred spirits.
This morning, I finally was able to sit up after 2 long days of not being able to, due to a nasty pinched nerve in my shoulder. I’ve been pining to get back to work. We took a bonified break for the holidays, and as the days passed I realized, this is the first time in 3 years I actually took a break. A break from email, a break from turning on my computer. Huz and I spend two wonderful days at the end of our holidays and just sat next to each other on the couch, for the whole day. I can’t remember the last time we did that. We reveled, and on Monday morning, I was itching to get back to work, because I had this wedding to show you, and another. Unfortunately I woke up after my uber relaxing holiday break, only to find that if I lifted my head off the pillow I was rewarded with shots of firey pain through my neck and shoulders. My head still feels heavy, but I practically leapt out of bed this morning, feeling like a sardine that’s been in a can too long. And so, back to work.
As I opened my computer this morning, gazing into the warm photos of Lydia and Danny’s wedding, a smile spread across my face. They warm me. The world would be a better place if everyone had someone they could look at, the way Lydia and Danny look at each other. Like a gift. It truly was a gift to return to Tensing Pen in Negril, Jamaica, to be there for this raucous and merry wedding celebration.
My heart skips a beat when I see this picture of Danny seeing Lydia for the first time!!
What better way to end a Husby Wifey dance than with a raucous and rowdy group hug!!
